Soprano Amira Selim performs at the Opening Ceremony of the Foundation for Human Fraternity

Soprano Amira Selim will perform at the opening ceremony of the Human Fraternity Foundation for Services and the signing of the foundation stone of the Bambino Gesù Women’s and Children’s Hospital, on October 3, 2022, at the Italian Embassy in Cairo.

Amira Selim the daughter of pianist Marcel Matthew and painter Ahmed Fouad Selim was born in Cairo. After studying piano, ballet and painting, she began training Italian vocal and music in Italy with soprano Gabriela Ravazzi in 1993 and graduated from the Cairo Conservatoire in 1999. In October 2001, she received a scholarship from the French government to study with soprano Caroline Dumas at the École Normal de Music de Paris, where she received her Constructivist Diploma in 2004.

In 2002, she was the first prize winner at the Orvieto International Competition in Italy. Salim began her career as a member and soloist at the Cairo Opera in 1997 with her first leading role in the opera Rossini Barbier de Sevilla in 1998, followed by a number of other productions. After moving to France, she continued to appear in Egyptian opera as well as French, Italian and German operas.

Amira Selim will commemorate this ceremony with the participation of a large number of ambassadors and Egyptian, Arab and Italian personalities, as well as local and international bodies, to inaugurate the Foundation for Human Fraternity for Services, which works to spread the culture of the document of human fraternity through concrete benevolent initiatives to serve all those in need and all segments of society without discrimination, preference or exclusion.

The Foundation is currently establishing the following projects in Egypt:

The Bambino Gesù Women’s and Children’s Hospital is a medical facility that aims at providing distinguished medical services for women and children, benefiting from the scientific and technical support of the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome, which is one of the most important specialized hospitals in this field in the world.

The orphanage "Oasis of Pietà" is a project that receives children deprived of family care and orphans to provide them with a home, family, and a real opportunity for a better future. The name of the house was inspired by the valuable gift that His Holiness Pope Francis gave to the project, which is a replica of the Statue of Mercy by the international artist Michelangelo.

The Human Fraternity School for people with disabilities will provide all rehabilitation and support programs for people with disabilities, and help them become self-reliant through a comprehensive development approach, high-quality services, all training means, extracurricular activities, and various programs.

In this ceremony, will be signed the foundation stone of the Bambino Gesù Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the first in the world outside Italy, which was approved by His Holiness Pope Francis, in appreciation of the person of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the people of Egypt, who hosted him as a precious guest in 2017.
